Started playing this, and at first I thought it was kind of lame. But then I started unlocking the time powers and pushing back against the intrusive narrative, and found it to be the most exciting third person shooter I've played since Vanquish. It didn't start to click until I started exclusively using the heavy pistol and relying on my time powers to engage the enemy. It looks and feels really cool. The action is much better, and more relentless and ruthless, than I was expecting for a game with such high narrative ambitions. Of course, those ambitions ended up being completely out of place in a game that's at its best when you're shooting baddies in imaginative, glitched-out environments.

It's a neat idea for a game. What if you could break reality, like you often do in a computer simulation? What gamer hasn't seen the occasional bizarre physics bug every now and then? It's an almost brilliant idea for a game, and it's implementation here is so well done that it manages to evoke an apocalyptic horror at the impossibility of what you're seeing all around you.

Just look at the cutscenes. The guy's always got a pistol in his hand. And for good reason.
