I don't buy the "clunky controls" argument. They were simply the best way anyone knew how to move a character in 3D at the time, given the restricted camera. I even played Alone in the Dark prior to this, back in 1992, and even then, I never had any issues with the controls. And given that the new Biohazard has its share of camera restrictions, since it is now first person and has to support VR, of course it's going to feel like it "had returned to its roots". From which it can then be accused of having "dull core gameplay".
