[PC] Crusader Kings III
Re: [PC] Crusader Kings III
RPS beginner tips and tricks - https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2020/0 ... nd-tricks/
I usually ignore articles like this, one of the worst of the new-release weeds, second only to the spoiling clickbait, but I ventured a glance after having played a few hours to see what the PC experts at RPS advised. After all, RPS did have some small part in boosting the reputation of the series. Perhaps some illuminating insight might be discovered here, a new angle from which to consider and refine my current strategies, and without fear of discovering something better learned in-game.
Well, suffice it to say that the article is utterly worthless. There is this one comment, however, that drew my attention.
Reading the above, and seeing the game's near universal acclaim for the grotesque, it's hard not to imagine players just racing through on max speed until they land upon a wacky event that they can share with glee amongst their fellow Internet addicts.

What he describes as "the real fun" is the most sickening aspect of the game. And I cannot believe how universal his experience of it seems to be. It's hard to find any criticism of the game which doesn't prominently praise its Internet humor as the greatest of strengths (RPS has one of the few reviews that doesn't). Now I've been playing for over 20 hours, and thankfully I've been spared from most of this filth. The worst I've seen so far are some ridiculous antics from having been gifted a cat. I can almost endure that. Almost.James Law wrote: A common mistake for newbies to make is trying to expand an empire too quickly. Sure, that lovely piece of land would help you get a little extra influence over the world, but you don’t necessarily want to rush into things like war.
Conquering stuff left, right, and centre will stretch your power thin, and battling numerous enemies whilst trying to retain control within your own realm is a recipe for annoying everyone and getting plots made against you.
Most of all though – try to relax and have fun!
It’s all well and good expanding your realm and doing diplomacy, but the real fun comes in when your treacherous brother-in-law discovers your penchant for cannibalism and threatens to tell the world, but you know he’s been sleeping with his aunt, so you both have your hooks into each other, and you try to plot to murder him sneakily before the secret is revealed, and so on. Crusader Kings 3 is best played embracing the chaos of the medieval world, and that’s where your enjoyment will come from.

When even the strategy gamers are brain-dead, where does that leave the rest of us?
Interesting to see a developer serve this popular perception back to his players (dev diary as marketing). Do people really alt-tab out of these games to gaze for hours into the maw of YouTube? Just to learn the UI?blackninja9939 wrote:I know when I started playing CK2 that I very quickly had to stop and go watch many hours of tutorials online because the UI was hard to use and buried relevant info without ever giving you an inkling of where to look.

Crusader Kings 3 patch fixes witchcraft, just in time for Halloween - https://www.polygon.com/2020/9/28/21459 ... hcraft-fix
To whom is the reassurance that the game isn't combat-heavy addressed?Charlie Hall wrote: If you’re an avid Crusader Kings 3 player, there’s a lot to digest. Perhaps the biggest change is in how the game’s artificial intelligence will behave during combat. Going to war isn’t a huge focus of the game, certainly not compared to a game like Europa Universalis 4. Nonetheless...

Polygon is still playing at legitimacy by covering CK patch notes - https://www.polygon.com/2020/11/24/2159 ... -character
Are we really to believe that anyone there is still playing Crusader Kings? With an opening paragraph written as if by Twitter committee, and the rest full of vulgar imaginations, it's hard not to read their post as anything but a bare-minimum contractual obligation with Paradox. Or does Polygon not regularly cover PC strategy games?
So here are the 1.2 patch notes - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/th ... s.1444123/
I've little to no interest in a ruler designer. Makes perfect sense to me that it was kept from release. The Kill List is just a bit of fun brought over from CK II, but a welcome addition nonetheless. The most significant feature here, i. e. the one I'll most be using, is army attachment. This was curiously absent at launch and made coordinating wars with an AI ally particularly tricky. You just kind of hoped that they moved their armies in a way that made sense next to yours. Now for the most part, they did, but certain critical battles are better left not to chance (it's not good for the Steam review ratings, you see). I do find it interesting that Imperator: Rome shipped with this feature, but CK III did not. Maybe they're right after all! It is more Sims than Civ! We strategy gamers just have to wait until the higher priority "Sims" features ship before we get back our basic tools for waging war.

1.2 Patch Notes - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/th ... s.1444123/
Looks like some good balance changes have been made to fervor. It was ridiculous how Catholicism's fervor was always hovering around 0% in a majority of my games, making conversion impossible (as noted above).- GHW: A successful GHW will now reduce the attacking Faith's Fervor by 25 (down from 30), an unsuccessful GHW will only reduce Fervor by 15 (down from 30)
- GHW: Invalidated GHWs now reduce Fervor by much less
- GHW: The cooldown between Great Holy Wars has been increased to 30 years (up from 5), in practice this means that Fervor for bigger faiths should stay at higher levels for longer
- GHW: The minimum fervor for launching a Great Holy War has been lowered to 65 (used to be 75), so that the increased cooldown between GHW's doesn't mean that too few are launched
- Successful Holy Wars now affect fervor significantly less (minor Holy Wars reduce by 1, Duchy Holy Wars by 2, Kingdom Holy Wars by 5)
- Unsuccessful Holy Wars no longer reduce the attacking Faith's fervor
- Halved the impact of Fervor on the speed of the Convert Faith of County councilor task, converting a high-fervor faith as a low-fervor one should no longer be impossible (but still hard, of course!)

Oh wow. Didn't know about this shortcut.- Added info to the realm map tooltip about expanding and collapsing realms through ctrl-clicking

lol. I know I definitely seek retribution after having been raided.- People will now be a bit miffed if you raid them

1.2.2 Patch Notes - https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/th ... es.1446267
There was quite an uproar over 1.2's automatic splitting of armies to prevent instant supply attrition. But now there's a way to raise armies as before using a Control-click. The rest of the patch is mostly bugfixes.- You can now hold the Control-key when raising armies to not have them be split based on supply when you raise them
