First impressions were not great when playing for the first time a year ago. And that was almost entirely due to the overabundance of fanservice. But I also didn't have the time to sink into a new Shenmue chapter back then, so I wasn't willing to push on past the annoyances. Now that I've given it a second chance, I'm glad that I did. There's a lot to love here if you've ever felt any affection for the previous games. It's a slow opening (I think I'm still technically in the prologue after 10 hours!), and it's not as enchanting an environment as Yokusuka or Kowloon (mostly due to the static NPCs who just stay put in a small village and don't give it the life of the cities we've visited before), but it does have its own beauty and simple charm.
