I bought Xenoblade Chronicles 3D because I was excited about the new Xenoblade for Wii U. But the low resolution screen of the 3DS isn't doing this game any favors. And neither is the 3D. It's really hard to see anything during the battles. I'll play around with it some more, and see if it's just something that takes getting used to.

I don't mind the English voices, but the cinematic cutscenes combined with lips synched to the Japanese dub make it look bad. Apparently you could play with the Japanese dub in Xenoblade Chronicles, but unfortunately no such option exists for this one.

In all respects, it seems like a lousy port. But if you really want to play this game, but don't want to spend $100 for a used copy of the Wii version, and already have a New 3DS, then well, here you go! This'll sort you out.

Also, I saw the term "cooldown" used on a tutorial pop-up window during the first fight as Shulk, and I was curious if that was the same term used in the original Japanese. It's not. The Japanese text uses the term "recast" instead.

You can see it here: https://youtu.be/MgtpvW5pZW4?t=12m7s

Yep, the 3D is worthless. A shame since so many 3DS titles have such great 3D to them. The first time I've ever had to turn it off.

It's the battles. During the battles, pop up windows fly out of the screen and practically slap you across the brow as you're trying to fight. It clutters up the view so badly. The only way to get those windows back where they belong, is to force them back into the screen by turning down the 3D slider.

This game just doesn't feel good at all on a handheld. I can easily see it driving up demand for the original Wii version as people begin to realize what's happened.

Polygon's review of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - http://www.polygon.com/2015/4/14/838493 ... knock-life

It's titled as a review of the 3DS port, but it reads like a review of the original. Even the sidebar has information about the Wii version, rather than the port. The only sentence explaining anything about the port is "it feels even more at home as a handheld title." Can't do much with that, now can we. At least there's a screenshot of the New 3DS version in the review, so you can see what you're getting yourself into.

I only mention it because I saw the game got a 8/10, and I said to myself, "How could anyone rate the port so high?" What's even more interesting is that the reviewer didn't care for the original, and finds this one to be the superior version, because it "has more room to breathe". Whatever that means.

It seems like there's a real fear today in giving a bad port a bad review, especially if the first game was any good. As if the original wasn't just as easily within our grasp, and that we should be grateful to be getting anything at all. Like they're doing us a favor or something. How much is a New 3DS? Right, and how much is a new Wii? What's that now? It's cheaper to get a new Wii with a used copy of Xenoblade than it is to purchase a New 3DS with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D? Well, there you go!
