[PS] [PC] Final Fantasy VII
Re: [PS] [PC] Final Fantasy VII
This is the game in which I first saw somebody grinding. Prior to that, I've never seen or even heard of such a thing. You can imagine my absolute bewilderment, when I first caught a friend running around in circles, over and over again, in a small forest patch on the overworld. Fight after fight. Over and over again. "Why? Why are you doing this?" I asked. I can't remember his response, but I do remember being troubled by it. The image of Cloud endlessly running around in circles still haunts me to this day.

Absolutely wonderful artwork inspired by the events of the game. It's like these images were extracted from the imagination of someone currently playing the game. Incredible! That's just how it is with these old games. They had an unusual ability to conjure powerful visions, despite all their crudities, which is why cursory and superficial analyses are never enough for appreciating the games of the past. I know I've made that mistake before, and it's something I'm always on guard against now.

Hironobu Sakaguchi wrote: Speaking of cinematic, we also wanted to have a soundtrack with no repeated music. In movies, you don’t hear music get repeated, you know. Depending on the scene the tempo or the intensity might change though. I think something like that should be possible… although there is the matter of how much available spirit/creativity we can get out of our composer, Uematsu. (laughs) Of course FF7 is a game that takes over 40 hours, so some music is repeated, but our overall goal was to make it as cinematic as possible in that regard.
