It takes some doing, but a friend and I finally unlocked the Torment VI difficulty level last night on Xbox One RoS. That's when the real fun begins. Start a new, hardcore character and begin with Act I on Torment VI. Every piece of equipment, every skill, every rune takes on an all new importance. Lower difficulty levels see you just plowing through the enemy without a care in the world. But with Torment VI, all that comes to an end. High damage will not save you.

Don't know why it doesn't come unlocked from the get go. Or why you can't immediately create hardcore characters. Oh well. At the rate you pop baddies in your quest to unlock Torment VI, you'll see the enemy so briefly on screen that it barely registers as a spoiler. Still, even the last Diablo III console version let you ramp up the difficulty immediately to the max if you wanted. If you happen to have played that, you can just import your high level character over from the last game, and none of this will be a problem for you. It should all unlock right away. But if you can't do that, expect to put in a few hours grinding before you can play the game at its finest.

This isn't Torment VI, but it is a picture of failure. After having finally leveled up and gotten the Teleport skill, I proceeded to quickly forget that I'd just equipped it, and pressed the X button in the middle of a mess thinking I still had my old skill set. A fatal error: https://account.xbox.com/en-US/gameclip ... 5f7e3a8635

Trying Torment VI on a hardcore seasonal character is not recommended. Part of what makes it doable on the console is the legendary ring they give you right away (a bonus for having linked your Battle.net account) as well as whatever goodies you might have kept stored in your stash throughout your first few characters' adventures. Instead, start with Torment I, and play until the game feels like it's not resisting you as much as it should. Then gradually ramp it up.

It's funny because adventure mode takes on a whole new dimension when played like this. You go in, do some quests, and if you've survived a few without too much of a fuss, then go to the next Torment. Sometimes you'll warp in to an area, immediately see some elites hanging around near the edge of the screen, and go, Nope! Can't do it! I'm out of here! Another funny thing about playing at the Torment difficulties is the problem that comes with leveling up too fast. Since the monsters scale based on your level, if you're equipment isn't improving at the same rate or greater than your level, you'll soon regret going out of your way to clear away all those common monsters with their empty XP and lousy drops.
